Spazio
Over the last five years my work has been connected to space – the space/s we live in, the spaces that surround us; their relationships to one another and their relationships to us as human beings. When I received the invitation to “Premio Pinton” and looked at the Donatello-reliefs from Sant Antonio, the perspective views that Donatello used, captured my attention.
Exploring elements of the images and taking them further.
Perceiving space both in a three-dimensional way and in a linear, drawing like way at the same time.
How does perception switch into imagination?
Fil d’Ariane
Accepted, traditional shapes dissolve and thus open up new perspectives. Will we find new ways in the transient labyrinth? Are we ready to strike out in new directions? Or will we loose ourselves in confusion and disorientation? Threads as “graphics of randomness” and shapes adapted from traditional kelim designs are the basic components of my body of work “Fil d’Ariane”.
The title refers to Greek mythology: Ariadne, the daughter of Minos, King of Crete, gave Theseus a ball of thread so that he could find his way out of the labyrinth of Knossos after killing the Minotaur. The definition of Ariadne’s thread as “the solving of a problem with multiple apparent means of proceeding…through an exhaustive application of logic to all available routes” is based on this story.
